Did You Know? Four Times Draper Made AV Installers' Lives Easier

Feb. 21, 2022 - The life of an AV installer isn’t always easy. Out-of-spec walls, small elevators, and tight installation timelines are just a few of the many challenges faced by AV installers.

Did you know Draper designs all of our products with the installer in mind? Here are four examples of how Draper made AV installers’ lives easier.

Eliminating access issues with Foundation®.

The Foundation® Mount System for LED was literally designed to make the installer’s job easier. With all of the time-saving innovations designed into Foundation, it’s hard to choose just one to discuss.

But there is one nightmare scenario just about every installer has faced: trying to maneuver large AV equipment into a building through small doors, onto cramped elevators, and around tight corners.

That’s not a problem for the Foundation!

However large the array being installed, all component parts are designed and manufactured to fit through standard doors, around corners, and onto freight elevators. Even the longest parts in the system, the horizontal rails, were specifically designed to be easily transported, configured, and assembled while maintaining a high level of precision.

Perfect positioning every time with Acumen®.

Don’t you hate it when you need to install a projection screen and the wall studs don’t match up with the mounting brackets?

Our product design engineers wanted to make hanging the Acumen® series screen case simple and easy. And one of their first concerns was to address stud location.

The Acumen case eliminates the issue with floating mounting brackets. The brackets are attached to the wall studs, and the Acumen’s extruded aluminum case mounts onto cleats on the brackets. The case “floats” along the brackets so there are both solid support and precise placement. Bracket locks keep the screen case snugly and safely in place.

Ceiling mounting is just as simple. Ceiling brackets work using the same concept as the wall mount.

Save time and hand cramps with Lace & Grommet.

Lace & Grommet projection screens are a great solution for very large screens, especially when flown or at live events.

One issue, however, has been additional installation time required to thread the lacing through the frame and the viewing surface.

Draper tackled this by designing a new attachment method. Instead of asking installers to hand-thread the laces Draper ships the frame pieces with bungees laced and attached to the frame. Instead of a tedious process of lace threading, the installers simple place attached hooks through the grommets on the viewing surface border.

A screen so accessible it’s in the name.

The Access concept is one of the most successful ideas in the history of projection screens. Draper first introduced “screen now/case later” Access screen cases in 1997. Since then, every other major screen manufacturer has introduced their own version of this concept.

Moveable mounting brackets outside the Access headboxes can be adjusted to meet installation requirements. If something is off by a few inches above the ceiling, it’s no problem!

Moveable brackets inside the case also allow for a different size or type of screen to be installed in the future.
