Multi-lingual commentary system to make international debut at Amsterdam's Royal Carré Theatre
New York, July 11, 2006 - Sound Associates, Inc., a leader in the field of assistive technology, announced that ShowTrans, the multi-lingual commentary system, will be available at Stardust Theatre Company's production of Rembrandt The Musical starting July 15 at the Royal Carré Theatre in Amsterdam.
ShowTrans is a state of the art service that provides multi-lingual audio commentary of a theatrical production. The fully automated system is synchronized to the show's lighting cues and is timed to play at strategic points during the production, so as not to distract from the action onstage. ShowTrans is not a word-for-word translation. Instead, the patron receives detailed plot information in his or her chosen language from a personal wireless device, enabling him or her to follow the action of the show. The nature of this technology allows patrons to attend any performance without seating restrictions. ShowTrans will be available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian for Rembrandt The Musical.
The production, which is one of the many events scheduled for the Rembrandt 400 Celebration, will begin its run on the 400th Anniversary of Rembrandt's birth. The opening marks the first time the ShowTrans system will be used in Europe. It is also the first time ShowTrans has been incorporated into a production that wasn't originally written in English.
"It's very exciting to be a part of this," said Mark Annunziato, VP of Operations and Engineering. "Rembrandt 400 is a big celebration in Amsterdam, and Rembrandt The Musical will be playing to a very international audience. I think that ShowTrans is a great fit for this musical."
For ten years, ShowTrans has been available at numerous productions across the United States. It is currently available in New York at the Broadway productions of Mamma Mia!, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Hairspray and Rent.
