Since its introduction to Broadway in 2004 with the Roundabout/Deaf West Production of Big River, The Sound Associates I-Caption System has blazed a trail of accessibility from coast to coast. This innovative system utilizes automation, synchronized to midi show controllers or SIMPTE time code to convey personal captioning, audio description or foreign language translation at every performance.
Earlier versions of the system required different receivers for each of the functions. PDA's outfitted with a special software have been used for the video receiver, while RF receivers were required for the audio services. With the introduction of the R4 Receiver, all services can be combined into one receiving unit.
"With the addition of this new receiver," notes system designer, Mark Annunziato, "it is not only an advancement for the end user, but for the venue, as well. It's not only a savings in the cost of the system, but makes distribution much simpler."
The new R4 receiver will be first implemented in the Broadway shows currently carrying I-Caption which include: Billy Elliott, Jersey Boys, Wicked and Mamma Mia; and will be utilized for future installations. With its light weight and multiple functions, the R4 takes the next logical step in accessibilities advancements.
